In 1888, most of the municipality of Umeå was destroyed in a devastating fire. When the city was rebuilt, birch trees were planted along the streets to prevent any future fires from spreading quickly. The tradition of planting birch trees in Umeå still exists today, which is why Umeå is called the “city of birches”. When Nordic Chocolate celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2024, we will pay tribute to our hometown with a chocolate bar with birch as a flavoring. We add sea buckthorn, which with its sour note provides a nice balance to the birch chocolate. Our very first trip to cocoa cooperatives was to Ecuador and Peru, with whom we still collaborate. This chocolate bar is made from beans from these places.
